Did God Waste Dust on You?
Then the Lord formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath or spirit of life, and the man became a living being. Genesis 2:7
Why are you here? Why were you born? What purpose on earth were you put here to fulfill? Whose life were you meant to touch? Whose spirit were you supposed to pour into? What did God set you apart for in life?
For much of my young life I have been wandering through not knowing the answers to these life determining questions. Questions every human being should be asking themselves. It seems amazing that we as creatures with cognitive minds take so long to ask these questions of ourselves. We go through life making decisions and seeking ambitions and fulfillment's, often times not really knowing if the one specific thing we are seeking is really what God had in mind when we took the time out his day to make each and every one of us.
We hear about so many people in college who change their majors junior year - unsure of what they were studying was the right thing. We hear about so many men and women in their fifties seeking fulfillment as they go through their mid-life crisis. We hear about so many pregnant teenagers and incarcerated youth who wish that they could do it all over again - if they had just known what had laid ahead. I myself have a list of mistakes and heartbreaks that I am still recovering from, because I did not know my purpose in life. So we scramble trying to figure out the answers and make sense of life, hoping that we catch up as to not become wasted dust.
The problem occurs, when we seek to answer these questions of purpose and we go to every source but the individual who made us; the world, television, friends, parents and celebrities. Now how is that? I realize now, that because I didn’t truly know and have a relationship with my creator during this time, Satan was able to come and fill my life with false idols, counterfeit dreams, and worldly agendas.
When the answer all boils down to this: until you know who God is, you will not know who you are! Until you know who you are, how can you reach your full potential in life? Furthermore if you do not know who you are how can you be in healthy relationship with anyone else.
And this is just not for the unsaved who don’t know God but this is for us saved sanctified Christians who claim we knew God since we popped out the womb. We Christians need to take a look at our own lives. Do we really know God? As Christians, we should reflect the character and attributions of Christ more and more. Yet, daily we don’t love and or reach out to the community. Take for instance the Washington, D.C. community, there is a church on every corner, yet over 50% of the children in this city live in poverty. From this angle, it seems as if the dust used on us has been wasted.
When you leave this earth what are people going to say about you. Are they are going to say she was rich, he was a workaholic, my pastor never knew my name, my mother never hugged me, man that boy had so much potential, I don’t know why he ended up in jail. Or are they going to say “man he loved, she loved, or wow the glory of God surely was manifested in that person’s life”.
Don’t let your life be in vain, God has created each and every one beautifully for a specific purpose and plan. Do not be a waste of dust never knowing that plan. Do not be a waste of dust by knowing your destiny, but never doing anything to bring about change in your situation and victory in your life. Anything is possible through Christ! Know Yourself by knowing your Creator!
